...FEBRUARY SETS LOW SNOWFALL RECORD FOR VALDEZ...

THE LEGENDARY SNOWFALLS OF DECEMBER AND JANUARY...WHICH DUMPED OVER
200 INCHES OF SNOW IN 6 WEEKS...HAD MOST OF US PONDERING THOUGHTS
OF A RECORD SNOW SEASON. SURPRISINGLY WE ARE NOW CONCERNED WITH THE
EXCEEDINGLY DRY AND ANNOYINGLY WINDY CONDITIONS THAT TOOK OVER IN
FEBRUARY. THE MERE SIX TENTHS OF AN INCH OF SNOWFALL AND THE
SIX HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF WATER EQUIVALENT HAVE PUT THIS FEBRUARY
AT THE TOP OF THE MOST PARCHED LIST.

STRONG HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE ALASKA MAINLAND AND LOW PRESSURE ALONG
THE SOUTHEAST PANHANDLE TEAMED UP TO BLOCK PRECIPITATION AND
GENERATED HIGH WINDS OVER THE AREA. STRONG WIND HEADLINES AND HIGH
WIND WARNINGS DOMINATED THE FORECASTS FOR VALDEZ AND/OR THOMPSON
PASS FOR MOST OF THE MONTH. IF IT WAS NOT WINDY WHERE YOU WERE
STANDING YOU COULD BET IT WAS WINDY UP THE ROAD OR AROUND THE
CORNER. WINDS IN VALDEZ WERE 25 MILES AN HOUR OR HIGHER ON 13 OF
28 DAYS WITH 9 OF THOSE DAYS PEAKING OVER 40 MILES AN HOUR. TOWARD
THE END OF THE MONTH WINDS SCREAMED AT OVER 80 MILES AN HOUR.

AS WE HEAD INTO MARCH THE FORECAST PROMISES LITTLE CHANGE FROM THE
STATUS QUO. STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO ROAR AGAIN THE NIGHT OF
FEBRUARY 28TH AND INTO THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF MARCH. I GUESS THAT
MEANS ITS "IN LIKE A LION".

FEBRUARY STATS:

RECORD LOW SNOWFALL.................0.60 INCHES 2007
PREVIOUS RECORD LOW SNOWFALL........4.60 INCHES 1982

RECORD HIGH SNOWFALL..............180.00 INCHES 1996

RECORD LOW PRECIPITATION............0.06 INCHES 2007
PREVIOUS RECORD LOW PRECIPITATION...0.57 INCHES 1989

RECORD HIGH PRECIPITATION..........14.46 INCHES 1996

PEAK WIND SPEED FEB 2007..........83 MPH ON THE 20TH

All through February, on and off, we've had High Wind Warnings, usually with gusts from 60-80 mph. Yesterday, it was 80-90 mph.It TOTALLY MESSES UP MY HAIR, MAN! And it sucks.
