Brilliant!

Mkay, people. Took a job for today...a Montessori Kindergarten class. I'm hoping it won't be too bad. The few Montessori classes I've had contact with have been very well behaved, plus as Kindergarteners they should have a teacher's aide with them. I think I've actually even had this particular class. My first day subbing, I was filling in for an art teacher, and I believe this class was one of the ones I had in the afternoon. So, we'll see. Wish me luck! More later.

Had a great day with my Montessori Kindergarten class. Didn't hurt that, in addition to myself, there was a co-teacher and a teacher's aide. There were 30 kids.

Montessori is a different way of teaching, where the kids move at their own pace. A lot of it has to do with social skills, too. There were very few worksheets, the rest of them they were writing stories, counting beads, and drawing pictures.

There was a spider on the back of the aide's chair, and I asked if I should smushify it, and the co-teacher told me "we don't kill living things in a Montessori classroom." ...Oh. She told me that they would shoo out things like bees and wasps, but apparently this teaching method is all about respect and "being strong," such as "I want quiet mouths and strong [still] bodies, or we won't play this game."

Anyway, due to the co-teacher and aide, I felt kind of useless except for shushing the kids, but they assured me at the end of the day that I had been very helpful.

No one told me I was pretty today. Oh well. My self-image does not depend on a bunch of Kindergarteners. *weep*

Anywho. It was a very good day.
